Well, that didn’t take long. Just a few days after Ford officials confirmed production of the 2010 Lincoln MKT crossover, our spies captured several clear images of a development vehicle. Judging by the interior shot, this crossover looks to be very close to production-ready.

The Lincoln MKT is based on a Ford Flex platform, so it’s no surprise the Lincoln will share the 270-hp, 3.7-liter normally aspirated V-6 engine found in the MKS on base models and have an optional 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 that utilizes direct injection and turbocharging to produce an estimated 340 hp and 340 lb-ft of torque. Expect a familiar six-speed automatic transmission behind either V-6. Front-wheel drive will be standard and all-wheel drive will be available.
You won’t, however, have to worry about mistaking the Ford Flex and Lincoln MKT.
Although a concept MKT debuted at the 2008 North American International Auto Show to mixed reviews, much of the concept’s styling seems to carry over to production. Expect the MKT to keep the concept’s face, distinctive C-pillar, and strong beltline. The majority of these features are under wraps, but it’s easy to see Lincoln’s new corporate grille through the front camo and the sloping roof of the MKT concept.
Expect to see a production 2010 Lincoln MKT at the 2009 North American International Auto Show in January. According to our spies, production could begin as early as the summer of 2009. Check back at Automobile Magazine online for more details on the Lincoln MKT and other future vehicles.

The Ford Flex-based Lincoln MKT has been given the green light by Ford execs and it appears as though the crossover’s development is progressing on schedule. Spy photographers spotted a mule for the MKT sitting outside a Ford facility early this year, but the latest images were taken on the freeways of Detroit. As the previous spy shots revealed, Ford engineers are using a previous-generation Freestyle body (not even a Taurus X!) to cover the underpinnings of the upcoming Lincoln CUV. While the vehicle is a mule, the front clip looks to be close in design to what will appear on the road-going vehicle. Although the front is draped with camouflage, Lincoln’s signature waterfall grille can be seen peering out from beneath — the very same that was used on the MKT Concept. Despite its Flex-based underpinnings, the MKT is not expected to be a case of badge engineering — trading boxy for sleek. The Ford Flex will be powered by the company’s 3.5L V6, but the Lincoln-badged version could see an EcoBoost powerplant underhood to differentiate itself from its Ford brethren. The concept was powered by such an engine, delivering 415 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque - an impressive 118 horsepower per liter. The MKT’s face appears to be heavily inspired by the MKR sedan concept. Of course, many of the MKR’s design cues were passed along to the production MKS, so the company’s two newest offerings should look nice side-by-side at Lincoln dealers. Interestingly, the MKT concept appeared to have a unique touch-screen interface in the center console, but so far Ford has made no comment on the technology. It’s also not known if the feature is intended for production. Ford has yet to announce when the MKT will hit the market, but some analysts expect to see it in showrooms in about a year from now. Sources from http://www.leftlanenews.com
