2009 Nissan GT-R deliveries set to begin July 7th

Nissan today announced that deliveries of the all-new 2009 Nissan GT-R are scheduled to begin on Monday, July 7, 2008. More than 1,700 of the exotic 480-horsepower GT-R supercars, or approximately 70% of the first year allocation for the US market, have already been spoken for since the announcement of a pre-sale ordering program last January.

The 2009 Nissan GT-R has a MSRP of $69,850 for the GT-R and $71,900 for the GT-R Premium model Destination & Handling (D&H) is $1,000. The GT-R is available only through officially certified Nissan dealers that have met a number of strict sales, service and facilities commitments, including dedicating a master technician to GT-R service. A searchable listing of the 671 GT-R Certified Nissan dealers is available to consumers on nissanusa.com.

“After years of speculation and anticipation, the wait for a U.S.-spec Nissan GT-R is over,” said Al Castignetti, vice president and general manager, Nissan Division, Nissan North America, Inc. “GT-R is one supercar that more than lives up to its promise, with independent testing by the leading auto enthusiasts magazines and online sites producing performance results that only a handful of production cars have ever attained - much less at a $70,000 MSRP.”

The price to put yourself behind the wheel of a Nissan GT-R will start at $70,850 for base models. Buyers of the Premium model receive stickier rubber, a Bose audio system, heated front seats and side and curtain airbags for $72,900. Both prices include a $1000 destination charge.

Nissan is giving customers just a few choices when optioning their GT-Rs. Super Silver paint will cost buyers $3000 while an iPod adapter rings in at $360 and carpeted floor mats are $280.

GT-R deliveries will begin July 7, with the first cars going to the more than 1700 Americans who have already placed orders. That leaves about 800 GT-Rs still unclaimed for the first year of production. To get your hands on one of the 480-hp, twin-turbo sports cars, make your way to one of Nissan’s 671 dealers who have been certified to sell the car.

Nissan announced pricing on the all-new, flagship 2009 Nissan Maxima, which goes on sale today at Nissan dealers nationwide. The seventh generation Maxima returns to its heritage as “The 4-Door Sports Car(TM),” combining thrilling performance with premium sedan comfort, quality and amenities.

It features all-new sports styling, a driver-oriented interior and an enhanced 290hp 3.5-liter DOHC V6 engine - offering 35 more hp than the previous generation Maxima and better fuel economy (EPA estimated 19 mpg City/26 mpg Highway versus 19/25 mpg for the 2008 Maxima).

The 2009 Maxima is offered in two well-equipped models, Maxima 3.5 S and Maxima 3.5 SV, each equipped with standard 3.5-liter V6 and intelligent Xtronic CVT(TM) (Continuously Variable Transmission). Prices start at a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $29,290 for the Maxima 3.5 S and $31,990 for the Maxima 3.5 SV.

Nissan UK launches GT-R Race Academy

When you own a powerful car like the Nissan GT-R, knowing how to handle it might be a pretty good idea. Nissan UK is launching for its future GT-R customers an innovative ‘Race Academy’ which could see them obtain their full racing license. The GT-R customers will participate in Race Academy events at Silverstone, or the GT-R’s spiritual home - the Nurburgring in Germany. Every GT-R customer is invited to take part in the events and get up close and personal with their new supercar before deliveries begin in March 2009. The Race Academy offers one-on-one tuition and over 45 minutes behind the wheel, and the opportunity to learn how to drift in a Nissan 350Z. Read more from the source here

2009 Nissan Maxima first impressions

I’m back from my day of driving the new Maxima. Today’s Nissan-sponsored junket followed typical junket SOP: Journalists pair off for a nice long drive on a route laid out by the manufacturer. Route quality varies, but today’s was a particularly good one, nice and long with plenty of challenging roads. However, thanks to good timing, fortunate circumstances, and a couple of willing Nissan staffers, I got a couple of hours on my own in a Maxima — and a chance to drive it on the About.com Top Secret Curvy Test Road. I normally eschew use of the word “w00t”, but this is a special occaision. So… W00t!

So how was the Maxima? Well, Nissan has definitely worked out the torque steer issue (the tendency of a powerful front-wheel-drive car to pull to one side under hard acceleration). Torque steer is all but undetectable in the new Maxima, a nice change from the first-gen V6 Altima, a car in which you could change lanes with the gas pedal. The Maxima’s ride isn’t quite perfect; the “sport” suspension is a bit too firm and the regular suspension a bit too soft. But that doesn’t get in the way of handling — the car I took on the Test Road had the base suspension, and when pressed to its limits it handled as well as any front-driver I’ve ever tested, and better than a few rear-drivers. My first impression was of a cut-rate Infiniti M-series — and I mean that as a compliment.

Spied: Production Nissan Intima?

Spy photographers have captured images of what looks to be a production version of the Nissan Intima concept. The Nissan Intima concept looked quite close to a production-ready car when it debuted last year at the Tokyo Motor Show, and this sighting could be an indication of why. Although the photos aren’t of the highest resolution, the images were captured just outside of where next month’s Beijing Motor Show will take place, indicating that the road-going Intima will make its world debut at that event. The car seen in the spy pictures is still partially covered, but you can clearly see that the car’s rear windows are heavily influenced by the show car. However, the concept’s smooth bumper was lost in the translation to production. According to Autoblog, if the Intima is indeed launched at next month’s show, it will become Nissan’s flagship sedan in China.
